SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SHORT FILM AND EUROPE! WOMEN IN FILM PROGRAMMES

The 68th Sydney Film Festival (3-14 November 2021) has today announced the return of the 52nd Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films and the sixth annual Europe! Voices of Women in Film program, in partnership with Dendy Cinemas and the European Film Promotion respectively. SHORT FILM AWARDSSydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley said, “The Festival is proud to once again showcase the incredible works of Australian filmmakers as part of the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films. Having launched the careers of countless renowned directors, writers, producers and other film creatives over the course of its 52 year-history, the Festival will premiere another cohort of 10 superb new short films.” Ten finalists for the prestigious Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films will screen in the Festival. SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL MOVES FESTIVAL DATES

In light of the Sydney lockdown extension announced by the NSW Government, Sydney Film Festival has announced that the 68th Edition will now be held 3-14 November 2021. From Wednesday 3 November to Sunday 14 November 2021, the 68th Sydney Film Festival offers Sydneysiders another exciting season of cinema amidst a whirlwind of premieres, red-carpet openings, in-depth discussions, film guests and more. Sydney Film Festival is a major event on the New South Wales cultural calendar and is one of the world’s longest-running film festivals. For more information, visit sff.org.au. The 68th  Sydney Film Festival today announced a sneak peek of 22 new films to be featured in this year’s 18-29 August 2021 event. The announcement is in advance of the full program launch on Wednesday 21 July. “With this first look at our 2021 program we invite audiences back into cinemas to explore our times through film,” said Sydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley.  The global health crisis has taken a terrible toll on humanity and in many areas of life.  We may feel isolated, out of touch, and missing our global connections as we all face restrictions, and have been unable to travel beyond country borders for over a year. This August we invite the audience to join us in discovering the important issues, people, places and phenomena motivating the world’s top filmmakers. To come together and share in their diverse experiences.   “These first 22 films, revealed today, take us on a journey from Côte d’Ivoire to Kosovo, from Iran to Japan, to the frontlines of climate change and the battle for democracy in Hong Kong. They take us into the future and the wild fantasy beyond. ST KILDA FILM FESTIVAL AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED

St Kilda Film Festival, Australia’s longest running short film festival in Victoria, has just concluded, and their award winners announced. Peter Skinner’s film Lost Boy took out the top prize at the festival. Carmentis directed by Antony Webb took out three awards including Craft Award, Achievement in Sound Post Production and Best Actor. Joy from Director’s Gabriel Morrison & Serena Siow took out Best Director and Best Screenplay.

SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES FELLOWSHIP FOR FIRST NATION FILMMAKERS

Sydney Film Festival and Deutsche Bank today announced that submissions are open for an exciting new grant for Australian First Nations film creatives.  The Deutsche Bank Fellowship invites film creatives to submit applications before 18 July 2021. The winning Fellow will be awarded a $20,000 grant to further develop their skills through international placement, or other professional development. The Fellowship is an important investment in developing and nurturing the talents of local creatives and enhancing global awareness of Australia’s vibrant Indigenous filmmaking talent. Eligible applicants are welcomed from creatives, screenwriters, producers, directors and actors with a proven track record in their chosen field.The successful candidate will be selected by a panel of key industry personnel, and the Fellowship will be awarded at the 68th Sydney Film Festival which will take place 18-29 August 2021.
