Sydney Film Festival today announced the appointment of Frances Wallace as its new Chief Executive Officer. Francis Wallace is a global arts leader who has worked in film festivals and cultural organisations in Melbourne, San Francisco and New York will be returning to Australia after 20 years offshore, including 6 years spent as Executive Director of San Francisco’s Frameline film festival. SFF Chair Deanne Weir said ‘After an extremely competitive recruitment process, we are delighted to welcome a leader of Frances’s calibre to the Sydney Film Festival team. SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES FAMILY PROGRAMME

The 69th Sydney Film Festival announces three family-friendly feature films and 8 shorts that will screen as part of the Family Program. Youngsters will be able to enjoy fun flicks from around the globe with 2022’s fantastic Family Program. Feature-length offerings include the highly entertaining superhero tale Super Furball Saves the Future, about a young girl who must save the world from a future without bees,” said Family Films Programmer Katharine Rogers.“A Sundance crowd-pleaser for all ages, Vietnamese sci-fi charmer Maika is about a lonely eight-year-old who befriends an alien visitor and joins the creature to outwit the unscrupulous baddies trying to capture her. Screening alongside Maika is the short film Laika and Nemo, a touching story about feeling like an outsider.” Ride the Wave is an exhilarating documentary following Scottish surf champion Ben Larg who at just 12-years-old, has a dream to ride the biggest, most dangerous cold-water waves in the world,” she said. Entries are now open for the 2022 Sydney Film Festival, for the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films, Documentary Australian Foundation Award for Australian Documentary competition, and both Australian and international categories for the general program. We encourage submissions (features, documentaries and shorts) to the festival from First Nation filmmakers from around the world. We also welcome entries of any length to the festival’s Screenability program from filmmakers with disability. The 68th Sydney Film Festival (3-14 November 2021) has today announced the return of the 52nd Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films and the sixth annual Europe! Voices of Women in Film program, in partnership with Dendy Cinemas and the European Film Promotion respectively. SHORT FILM AWARDSSydney Film Festival Director Nashen Moodley said, “The Festival is proud to once again showcase the incredible works of Australian filmmakers as part of the Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films. Having launched the careers of countless renowned directors, writers, producers and other film creatives over the course of its 52 year-history, the Festival will premiere another cohort of 10 superb new short films.” Ten finalists for the prestigious Dendy Awards for Australian Short Films will screen in the Festival.
